How the 7-a-side 2-3-1 works

The wide midfielders are the system's teachers: they attack as wingers, defend as full-backs, and learn both jobs in one match. The central midfielder links everything and is usually your most developed passer. Coaching points that matter at this size: the two defenders split wide in build-up rather than hiding behind the striker's press, the midfield three stays connected rather than chasing as individuals, and the striker's first job is showing for the ball, not sprinting behind. Rotate positions across the season - the shape works with every child in every slot, which is exactly why it develops players.
