How the 9-a-side 3-3-2 works

The middle centre-back learns the sweeping role: covering both channels and stepping into midfield when the ball is safe, the exact instincts a back-three centre-back needs later. The wide midfielders own their entire flank, preparing them for both full-back and winger roles at 11-a-side. The front two splits duties naturally - one drops toward the ball, one runs beyond. Common coaching correction: the three defenders flatten into a line and stop talking; the shape only works when the spare man is genuinely spare. From here, the step to a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 at full size is small and logical.
